THE WE KNOW YOU

'Puerto Rico Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' Inductees 2014

After Roy Fernandez was injured in a car accident, Johnny Harris took over on rhythm guitar. BTW, the car accident remains a terrible memory to this day (Gonchi and I were in the car, too, with others). by Penny Andrea-Einmo

RECEIVED VIA EMAIL FROM JOHNNY HARRIS

IN YOUR EXPOSÉ OF THE "WE KNOW YOU" THE ORIGINAL DRUMMER WAS MIGUELITO "EL NICHE", I THINK RODRIGUEZ WAS HIS LAST NAME. GONCHI REPLACED HIM AS DRUMMER. WHEN ROY HAD THE ACCIDENT, THERE WERE TWO REPLACEMENTS BEFORE ME. (IT'S A LONG STORY)!

THEN WE PLAYED AT THE CONDADO BEACH, BATTLE OF THE GROUPS WHERE WE GOT TOGETHER (THE OTHER GROUPS) TO FURNISH EQUIPMNET TO THE "LIVING END" BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THEY WERE BETTER THAN THE REST OF US AGAINST "THE TEEN SOUNDS" THAT HAD THE SUPER AMPLIFIERS (VOX SUPER BEATLES ?)

AFTER GONCHI LEFT THE GROUP, JAIMITO AND I TOOK ON ADRIE BUXEDA AS DRUMMER AND WE HAD A SUBSTITUTE BASS PLAYER THAT HAD PLAYED WITH THE "CRO-MAGNONS" WHEN WE PLAYED AT THE HIRAM BITHORN STADIUM. (THAT WAS THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPH WITH THE UMBRELLA).

AFTER THAT, IVAN CLAUDIO "STRANGE SOULS" CONVENED A MEETING AT THE MUSICIANS ASSOCIATION WHERE WE WERE TO AUDITION FOR A NEW GROUP. WE REHEARSED AND A NEW GROUP WAS FORMED WITH JAIME, JOHNNY, BOBBY (ROBERTO PURAS) AND BRUCY CASTRO ON DRUMS. IT WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST I HAD BEEN IN WITH THE VOCALS.

AT A GIG AT THE KUM-KUM IN THE AMERICANA HOTEL JAIMITO STOPPED, JUMPED OVER HIS AMPLIFIER AND BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF BRUCY JUMPING OVER THE DRUM SET.

THEN JAIME (JAIMITO) CREATED A GROUP WITH GONCHI, I THINK IT WAS "THE WE" WITH BOBBY PURAS, DIDN'T LAST, AND THE GROUP WITH JAIMITO AND GONCHI GOT RAFI TORRES AS BASS PLAYER AND A YOUNG GUY ON A HAMMOND ORGAN. I REPLACED THE KEY-BOARD PLAYER ON THE HAMMOND IN THAT GROUP. AFTER THAT, JAIMITO GOT WITH NILDA REXACH AND BOBBY BUT I CAN' REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE GROUP. NILDITA WAS THE DRUMMER AND JAIMITO LEAD SINGER.

HE ENDED UP MARRIED TO NILDITA AND I SAW THEM AT THE VILLAGE IN NEW YORK MANY YEARS LATER. AFTER THAT I LOST TOUCH WITH EVERYONE UNTIL 1983. ALBERTO CARRIÓN IN THE MEANTIME HAD ABRAM SHOE (STILL IN THE SIXTIES) AND THAT WAS A VERY GOOD GROUP.
